Answers before you book

Do I need a referral to see a psychologist?
No referral is needed to book an appointment with OnePointHealth. Although it is strongly recommended. You can contact us directly and we’ll get you started. If you’d like to access Medicare rebates, you’ll need a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, but this can be arranged after your first session.
How long does a psychology session go for?
Standard individual sessions are 50–60 minutes. Assessment appointments may be longer depending on the type of assessment. We’ll let you know what to expect when you book.
What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?
Psychologists provide talk-based therapy and assessments, and focus on understanding and changing thoughts, feelings, and behaviour. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who can prescribe medication. Many people benefit from working with both. Our psychologists can help coordinate care with your GP or psychiatrist if needed.
Do you offer online appointments?
Yes. Telehealth sessions are available for eligible patients across NSW. Online appointments are available for individual therapy, couples counselling, and some assessments. Just let us know your preference when you book.
How quickly can I get an appointment?
We do our best to offer same week appointments where possible. Availability varies by psychologist and service type. Call us directly for the fastest availability, our team will find the soonest suitable option for you.
Is everything I share kept confidential?
Yes. Everything discussed in your sessions is kept strictly confidential in accordance with Australian privacy law and the APS Code of Ethics. There are very limited exceptions, such as if there is serious risk of harm, and your psychologist will always explain these at your first session.
