Community Context in Penrith

Penrith’s unique social and environmental factors influence mental health needs:

  • The region has experienced significant development and population growth, bringing social changes that can impact community connectedness and mental wellbeing
  • Penrith has diverse demographic needs, with the most prevalent long-term health conditions being asthma (9.0%), mental health (8.9%), arthritis (7.9%), and diabetes (5.5%)
  • Access to specialist and psychiatric services is identified as a key health priority in the region
  • Suicide support services, particularly for young people in crisis, have been highlighted as a critical need in health planning
  • The median age in Penrith is 35 years, with areas showing higher rates of mental health conditions having varying demographic profiles
  • Penrith’s strong sporting culture provides excellent opportunities for physical activity and social connection, both protective factors for mental health

At OnePointHealth, our psychologists in Penrith understand these local factors and develop treatment approaches that consider the unique context of life in our community. We’re part of the solution to addressing identified health priorities, including improving communication between health services, healthcare providers and consumers.
